Language Arts: Scott Foresman Reading Street

Scott Foresman Reading Street 2007 is an all-new reading program designed to help teachers build readers through motivating and engaging literature, scientifically research-based instruction, and a wealth of reliable teaching tools. The program takes the guesswork out of differentiating instruction with a strong emphasis on ongoing progress-monitoring and an explicit plan to help with managing small groups of students. In addition, Reading Street prioritizes skill instruction at each grade level, so teachers can be assured they will focus on the right skill, at the right time, and for every student.

Math: Everyday Mathematics

Everyday Mathematics is an enriched, comprehensive, and balanced mathematics curriculum for grades Pre-K-6. Developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project, the basics such as computational skills as well as a broad range of mathematics concepts including data and probability, geometry and spatial sense, measures and measurement, algebra and uses of variables are presented. Meaningful Problem Solving is woven throughout every lesson with a multitude of Cross-Curricular Connections.

Science: SRA Real Science

Learning occurs in different contexts through a combination of See-First Video, Student Edition lessons, and Hands-On Activities (on CD-Rom). Students can even explore the topics that interest them most with the Science Connection Center .

Social Studies Curriculum

The KinStar Social Studies Curriculum is teacher developed and responds to the differing needs of each grade level. The scope and complexity increases at each grade level but includes beginning with the individual and moving outward in concentric circles to culminate with the study of the role of the individual within a global community. The main thrust of the social studies curriculum is the development of life skills. Each teacher incorporates elements of history, culture and geography into their specific program.

The "Making Music" curriculum

The "Making Music" curriculum we chose for the English curriculum focuses on high student participation in a spiral of learning. Concepts developed in the younger grades are reinforced and built upon as the students progress, while they are introduced to a variety of music styles, genres and a wide range of contributions from many cultures. Students experience quality music while learning the technical language of music. It serves an additional purpose of offering yet another venue of English language exposure for the benefit of our English Language Learners. Another strong component of our music curriculum is a focus on performance, preparing students for our annual concerts and festivals. The Chinese music curriculum pulls from a variety of sources and focuses on the skills of Chinese folk songs, reading notation, and playing intruments.
